Celebrating the coffee harvest on the Bolaven Plateau — tastings from local farms, live roasting, an ethnic-crafts market and music in the cool mountain air.
At around 1,000–1,300 m, the Bolaven Plateau grows the finest coffee in Laos, both arabica and robusta. December is the start of the cherry harvest, and Paksong celebrates with a festival that brings farmers, roasters and visitors together.
Expect tasting booths from cooperatives and family farms, traditional pan-roasting next to modern roasters, a cupping competition, a market of highland vegetables, temperate fruit and textiles woven by Laven, Alak and Katu communities, and folk music in the evening.
Tips:
- Nights can drop below 12°C — bring a warm layer.
- Paksong is about 50 km (around an hour) from Pakse: take a songthaew from the Southern Bus Terminal or hire a car for the round trip.
- Combine it with Tad Fane and Tad Yeung waterfalls in a single day.
