Tad Yeung (Tad Yuang) Waterfall
ນ້ຳຕົກຕາດເຍືອງ
Overview
About this place
A 40-metre curtain of clear water falling into a swimmable pool, with a viewing bridge in front and local coffee stalls at the gate — near Km 40 on the Pakse–Paksong road.
The easiest, clearest falls on the plateau
Tad Yeung — usually spelled Tad Yuang by foreign visitors — is a 40-metre waterfall spilling over a basalt cliff into a wide, clear pool, surrounded by forest and coffee farms. It is one of the most popular waterfalls in Champasak with Lao, Thai and international travellers alike.
Highlights
The entrance car park is lined with stalls selling fresh Paksong coffee, fruit and simple Lao food. From there, steps lead down to a viewing bridge set directly in front of the falls — the best spot for a full-height photo — and on to the pool at the base, which is clear enough for swimming in the dry season. A path at the top leads to a lookout over the lip of the falls and the valley below.
When to go
November–February brings cool weather and the clearest water with plenty of flow — ideal for a swim. In the rainy season (June–October) the falls are powerful and muddy, so stay out of the water. Weekends and holidays draw big local crowds; arrive in the morning.
Tips
The steps and the rocks around the pool are slippery, so wear sandals with heel straps. Leeches can appear on forest paths in the wet season. Bring swimwear, a towel and a light jacket — the water and the plateau breeze are chilly. Tad Fane is only about 2 km away, so both fit easily into half a day.
